Crossovers, the current trend among the Indian car buyers, are cars built on the platform of a passenger car; but having features of an SUV in varying proportions. A crossover generally comes with the uni-body type construction ofpassenger vehicles. Etios Cross is a crossover built on the underpinnings of the popular hatchback Toyota EtiosLiva. At first glance, Etios Cross looks like a muscular and rough version of the Liva. However, a closer examination reveals that both cars are not identical.Toyota has effectivelymerged the desirable features of an SUV and hatchback into this crossover, so that the buyer gets a better car in terms of features and ride quality. Hence, it would not be wrong to say thatEtios Cross is a revamped version of Liva, with more SUV like features and styling.
Etios Cross comes in four variants – G, V, GD and VD. G and V are petrol variants while GD and VD are diesel trims. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder, 16 valve 1197 cc 78 bhp DOHC engine, or a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, 16-Valve 1496 cc 88 bhp DOHC engine. The torque produced is 104Nm and 132Nm respectively. The diesel unit is a 4-cylinder, 8-valve 1346 cc 67 bhp 170 Nm SOHC common rail engine. All the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Etios Cross offer good mileages in the range of 16 to 23 kmpl, depending on the engine type.
The Etios Cross can carry up to five people in good comfort. It offers a fairly big boot space of 251 liters. Other attractive features of this crossover include a 2-DIN Audio CD System integrated with USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity, three-spoke power steering wheel, front and back door pockets, chrome accented A/C vents and digital clock, to mention a few. Safety is ensured by providing several features like ABS with EBD, child lock, seat belts, and SRS airbags among others.
Available for a price tag ranging from INR 576000/- to 740640/-, the Etios Cross is an affordable crossover for the Indian car lover.
